Every now and then you come across a story that gives your goosebumps goosebumps… A story that simply MUST be shared! After hearing it I felt that God was setting the tone for my walk with him in the New Year.

At our first highschool ministry meeting of 2015 our pastor shared a story of their December mission’s trip in Port Elizabeth.

“I hate what God has done to me! I didn’t do anything to deserve this!?”

These were the words of an eight year-old boy suffering from cerebral palsy. With one side of his body left without function, he had never been able to walk and felt that he had missed out on all that it meant to be a child. Filled with anger towards God, he opened up to two of our leaders who began to pray for him.

Knowing that our God is the God of the impossible, one of the leaders prayed out Luke 1:37…“For nothing is impossible with God”. They had full confidence in the almighty power that He has and prayed that He would pour out His healing on the little boy. As they continued to pray, they stood him up and he took his first ever step with the leg that, for so long, was left without function.

A few days later, after delivering his message, our pastor asked if there was anyone there who did not know Christ, but would have liked to accept Him as their Lord and Saviour. A man put up his hand… It was the boy’s father.

The conclusion to that story hit me like a ton of holy bricks! How awesome and mighty is our God that He can bring good out of a situation that seems hopeless? Trust and obey…

After hearing the testimony, I felt Joshua 1:9 on my heart. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”. How many opportunities to minister to others have I missed because of fear? How many friends could I have invited to that youth meeting but was too afraid of what they would say? Why am I feeling discouraged if I truly believe that our God, who is above all things, is with me!? I really felt convicted to trust Him with all I have, obey His calling and seize opportunities to witness to others whenever they appear.

I, personally, have always battled with trusting God 110%, but this story really brought to light the fact that we serve an incredible, implausible God who can do things beyond our wildest comprehension. Not only did he work a miracle in the young boy but in his father, who came to Christ too!?! Amazing!

Like the leaders who prayed for the boy, I pray that during this year, we will have a confidence to share the love of Christ wherever we go. That we will never be afraid to testify for what He has done in our lives and that we will have the strength and courage to go and do God’s work wherever and whenever.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”

Remember, we serve an Almighty Creator… A sovereign God. Stay obedient, lean on His strength and trust in Him! Who knows what 2015 will bring!?

Peace and Love
