Whilst writing my recent exams, I noted some very peculiar occurrences. The man behind me would often swear at his exam, whilst others around me couldn’t help but smile at theirs. We all handle stress in different ways. We all do something different to handle our stress. Some of us will “stress eat” others might decide to exercise. It’s impossible to live life without some form of stress or pressure. The main question we should all ask ourselves is “Where do I turn when stress strikes?” As a Christian, will I turn to the world, or will I turn to God?
God is always there for you, no matter what kind of stress you are going through. He knows your struggles, and He knows your fears. Psalm 118:5-6 says “In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and He answered by setting me free. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” This verse speaks so much truth into the kind of power God has over our worries and fears. At your lowest point, when you feel there is nothing that can be done, when you feel trapped by the overwhelming weight on your shoulders, God will set you free. God will help you carry any burden you have. Whether this burden is related to exams, work, relationships, or any other form of stress, He will be there.
“In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and He answered by setting me free. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
Often, when we are so focused on our problems, we forget about the amazing joy that God can bring. Like that guy in the exam, we curse the problem. In these moments of weakness, God can help lift us up. Don’t forget, there are people in your life who can help you overcome any problems and anxieties. They will pray for you and help you. These people should never be underestimated, because they can bring true joy and comfort.
As a Christian, will I turn to the world, or will I turn to God?
As you go through your 2015, remember this; God will be there, God will set you free. Psalm 56:3 “When I am afraid, I will trust in You.” Trust in God to be your strength to get you through. That way you won’t feel under pressure all the time.
Stay awesome everyone.
